The final year students of the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) department recently visited the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) in Poojapura. There, they explored the dynamic world of the biomedical industry, gaining insights into cutting-edge technologies and innovations. The students had the opportunity to tour various laboratories, including the instrumentation laboratory, witnessing the development of biomedical devices firsthand. Engaging with experts at SCTIMST, they learned about the diverse range of products crafted within the institute, from medical devices to diagnostic tools. This immersive experience sparked a newfound enthusiasm among the students, inspiring them to consider the intersection of electronics and healthcare in their future careers.
The Electronics & Communication Engineering Department is a part of the institute since its inception, with an intake of 60 students. We are fortunate to be center of choice for most of the stakeholders in this region.
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering has consistently maintained an exemplary academic record. The greatest asset of the department is its highly motivated and learned faculty. The Department has grown over the years with qualified teaching faculty members who are passionate to impart quality education.
The UG programme in the Department aims at producing engineers with sound knowledge in Electronics and Communication Engineering and a strong background in almost all the fields of Electronics and Communication. We ensure that students are abreast with latest technologies through our regular teaching learning process and additional enrichment programs. Students are provided the entire required platform for their overall development in sports, cultural, curricular, technical & regular academics.
The graduates of the Electronics & Communication stream have been selected by some of the world’s leading corporations & as well as by most of the leading Indian counter parts. We hope that we will continue to deliver our best to serve the society and mankind.

The 3D Modelling Workshop, conducted by the ECE Department at the College of Engineering, Muttathara, on April 28, 2022, was mentored by Jithin Jayakumar, the CEO & Founder of Lynxlit. As part of the inter-college techno-cultural fest "Laasya", the workshop introduced participants to the world of 3D modeling, focusing on design techniques, software tools, and the applications of 3D models in engineering, animation, and product design. Under Jithin's mentorship, attendees gained hands-on experience, exploring the creation and manipulation of 3D objects.
The workshop aimed to equip students with skills that are highly relevant in today's technological landscape, fostering creativity and innovation. It was a key highlight of Laasya 2022, attracting students from various backgrounds eager to explore the possibilities of 3D modeling.
The EPIC, ECE Association Activity Inauguration 2022-23 was officially held on December 12, 2022, at the IEDC Hall of the College of Engineering, Muttathara. The ECE Department Association, EPIC, organized a Football Quiz – "Kurat al-Qadam" at the College of Engineering, Muttathara, on December 12, 2022.This event was designed for football enthusiasts, testing their knowledge of the sport’s history, legendary players, iconic matches, and major tournaments. The quiz featured multiple rounds, including rapid-fire and audio-visual questions, making it an engaging and competitive experience.With enthusiastic participation from students, the event fostered a spirit of sportsmanship and passion for football. Kurat al-Qadam became a memorable part of the department’s activities, bringing together fans of the game in a fun and intellectually stimulating environment.
The ECE Department of College of Engineering, Muttathara conducted a Tesla Coil Exhibition as part of the inter-college techno-cultural fest "Laasya" on April 28, 2023. The exhibition showcased the working principles and applications of the Tesla Coil, a high- voltage resonant transformer invented by Nikola Tesla.
During the event, live demonstrations illustrated wireless power transmission, high-frequency electrical phenomena, and plasma arcs, captivating both students and visitors. The exhibition aimed to promote interest in electrical engineering concepts, inspire innovation, and highlight the practical implications of Tesla's groundbreaking work. It attracted significant participation from students, faculty, and tech enthusiasts, making it one of the key highlights of Laasya 2023.
The ECE Department Association, EPIC, celebrated Pi Day on March 14, 2023, at the IEDC Hall, College of Engineering, Muttathara, with a series of engaging activities. The event featured challenges, poster presentations, and interactive sessions to highlight the significance of Pi (π) in mathematics, engineering, and science. Students participated in problem-solving challenges, memory contests, and creative poster displays, showcasing the various applications of Pi in technology and real-world scenarios.
The celebration encouraged a deeper appreciation for mathematics and its role in engineering, making it an educational yet fun experience for all participants. The enthusiastic involvement of students and faculty made Pi Day 2023 a memorable and intellectually stimulating event.
The students of the ECE Department, under IEDC CEM, inaugurated the First-Ever Startup, “COEDROLE”, at the College of Engineering, Muttathara, on August 24, 2023. This milestone event marked the beginning of an entrepreneurial journey within the college, encouraging innovation and startup culture among students. Coedrole aims to develop cutting-edge solutions in the tech domain, fostering creativity and industry-oriented problem- solving. The inauguration ceremony featured insights from faculty mentors, startup enthusiasts.

The ECE Department under IEDC, CEM hosted the first and second product launch of Coedrole at the College of Engineering, Muttathara, on November 24, 2023.
First Product – Power Supply Module:The Power Supply Module is designed to provide a stable and efficient power source for various electronic projects. It offers reliable voltage regulation and is ideal for use in both educational and industrial applications. This product aims to simplify the power management process for developers and students working with electronics.
Second Product – LDR Module:The LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) Module is an innovative product designed to detect light intensity and convert it into an electrical signal. This module can be used in applications like automatic lighting systems, solar energy projects, and other sensor-based systems that require light sensing capabilities.
The product launch event was a significant step for Coedrole, showcasing the practical impact of student-driven innovation. It also highlighted the role of the IEDC in fostering entrepreneurship and technological advancement at the college.

The “Robo Genesis”- Robotics Workshop was conducted in the afternoon session on November 29, 2023, at the Seminar Hall, College of Engineering Muttathara, following the EPIC, ECE Department Association Inauguration. Led by Kezin B Wilson, the workshop provided students with an in-depth understanding of robotics and its real-world applications. The session covered key concepts related to robotic design, development, and automation, equipping participants with essential technical knowledge.

Students from the ECE Department took the initiative to mentor a project titled "Smart Solar Streetlight" for GVHSS Kallara on December 7, 2023.. This initiative aimed to provide a sustainable and energy-efficient lighting solution while fostering technical learning and innovation among school students. The project focused on integrating solar energy, smart automation, and energy storage to ensure continuous lighting, even in low sunlight conditions.
Under the guidance of the ECE students, the GVHSS Kallara team gained hands-on experience in circuit design, solar panel integration, and microcontroller programming. The mentoring sessions involved detailed discussions on power efficiency, automatic lighting control, and battery management systems. The successful completion of this project not only enhanced the students' technical knowledge but also promoted sustainable energy solutions, setting an example for future collaborations in renewable technology development.

The event marked the unveiling of ECO SENSE, a Smart Public Addressing System with a battery backup, designed to enhance efficient communication in public spaces. Faculty members, students, and industry professionals attended the launch, highlighting the product's innovative features and real-world applications.
ECO SENSE stands out with its smart integration, offering seamless audio announcements with uninterrupted functionality even during power outages. The launch event included a live demonstration of the product, showcasing its reliability, energy efficiency, and user-friendly design. The EPIC, ECE Department Association organized a seminar on "Essence of Linear Algebra" on November 29, 2024, at the Seminar Hall of the College of Engineering, Muttathara. The session was conducted by Prof. Biju P, Assistant Professor, ECE, who provided an in-depth exploration of the fundamental concepts of linear algebra and its significance in engineering applications. The seminar aimed to enhance students' understanding of topics such as vector spaces, matrices, transformations, and their real-world relevance in signal processing, machine learning, and control systems.
Prof. Biju P’s interactive presentation helped students grasp complex mathematical concepts through visual explanations and practical examples. The seminar encouraged active participation, with engaging discussions and problem-solving exercises that deepened students' analytical thinking. The ECE Department of College of Engineering, Muttathara actively participated in the Expo conducted by Malayinkeezhu Govt. School on January 24, 2025, presenting their innovative project, ECO GROW IoT. This project is a fusion of aquaponics and hydroponics, integrated with sensor-based IoT applications to enhance sustainable farming practices. By combining these techniques, ECO GROW IoT aims to create an efficient, water-saving, and automated agricultural system that optimizes plant growth while maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
With real-time monitoring through sensors, the system tracks essential parameters such as water quality, nutrient levels, temperature, and humidity, ensuring ideal conditions for plant and fish growth. The project demonstrates how technology and agriculture can work hand in hand to promote eco-friendly and resource-efficient farming. The ECE Department's participation in the expo provided students with a platform to showcase their technical expertise while inspiring young minds about the potential of smart farming and IoT-driven innovations.
1. Each semester has a class committee constituted by Class tutor, faculty handling different courses and 2 student representatives. Meetings are held 3 times per semester, 2 after each series and an introductory meeting at the beginning of each sem.
2. Scrutiny committee was formed for scrutinizing the question papers of 8 th sem exam KTU online exam, as the final sem KTU question paper was prepared from within the department. Each course scrutiny committee was constituted by HOD and a senior faculty member.
3. Meetings for analysing the result of each sem would also be conducted by the HOD after the publication of results by KTU.
